Building Relationships

Facebook is celebrating its 12th birthday by showcasing the importance of friendship. Personalized Friends Day videos were sent to millions of people around the world so they could share special moments with their friends.

Worldwide, there are more than 1.55 billion monthly active Facebook users, which represents a 14 percent increase from the previous year (Source: Facebook as of 9/30/15).  Those billions of users are building a network of “friends” and the average American spends 40 minutes a day liking, sharing, and posting. Social media has created a new form of “networking” but has it replaced the importance of “relationship building?” There is a difference.

The Journey Begins

January 15, 2016

Today, I officially announce THBoyd Communications: An agency that provides public relations, marketing, and publication services to businesses, government agencies, associations, and non-profit organizations. The mission is simple: We believe everyone has a story to tell, so let us tell yours.

THBoyd Communications is the start of my new journey. As I wrote my business plan, I recounted my more than 22 years of public relations and marketing experience from a sales representative with a national hotel chain to director of communications at Valdosta State University.

In a commencement speech at Stanford University on June 12, 2005, Steve Jobs encouraged the young graduates to discover their passion and find what they love.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work,” Jobs said. “And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

I have found what I love—I have created the company that I have envisioned. What I want to do now is to help others find their vision and tell their story.

I hope you will join me in my journey.

Thressea H. Boyd, CEO
THBoyd Communications, LLC
